Flower Dome
This is the biggest greenhouse in the world which has several thousand species of exotic flowers and plants from across the world. But the beauty lies in the details.
1. There are no supporting structures like pillars/columns.
2. The glass adds to the aesthetic value of the dome. But the same beauty can also destroy the plants inside it due to the excessive solar heat. So they have used specialized glass panels that take in just 1/3rd of the heat of the sun.
3. On very sunny days, they can open the electrically controlled vents to dissipate the undesirable heat. Moreover, they can cover the glass panels with the retractable sails attached to the steel arcs of the structure to provide more shade.
4. The air-cooled only at the lowest layer of the dome to conserve power. How?
They de-humidify to make it lighter for the cooling process. The drying agent used here is also recycled from the bio-mass.
The warm air is lighter and so it rises on its own to the higher levels and is filtered out.
